Mt. Olive Hosts Hoops for Jesus

Hundreds of Meridian area students are spending their spring break shooting hoops..

But this isn't just any basketball tournament. It's Hoops for Jesus. Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church has supported this event for 14 years.

Pastor A.D. Lewis says it's a chance for the kids to compete and get some exercise, plus grow mentally and spiritually:

"A lot of children do not have anywhere to go," said Lewis. "Some people go out of town, but a lot of them cannot, and this provides them with a place to go, to get a chance to participate in a wholesome activity and enjoy themselves. And also helps and gives some relief to the parents during spring break."

The teams came from churches and organizations from across the city, ages 6 and up.
