NAACP March Planned for Monday

The local NAACP will be holding a "Walk for Justice" on Monday to protest the deaths of Trayvon Martin and James Anderson.

You may recall that protestors gathered in Jackson last month to march in support of Martin, who was allegedly shot by neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman in Sanford, FL. Anderson is the black man who was run over and killed by a white teenager in Jackson last year.

Monday's NAACP "Walk for Justice" gets underway at 6:30 at Bonita Lakes Park in Meridian. If there is bad weather, the event will be held on Wednesday.

Get over it, live up to your "name". You're right, we are not enslaved but injustice and inequality exist. You call me ignorant but your comments is the perfect example of ignorance. How could you call programs that help African Americans racist when white people created the system? The entire system was set up for your benefit and our ancestors had to endure hardship just to get a fraction of it. People like you always fuss and complain because you don't like the fact that you have to share "your" rights with everyone else.

So you can get over it and take that whiny, racist, and uneducated rhetoric somewhere else.

@Ashamed: You're right, injustice and inequality do exist, however not the way you have described. Your ancestors may have had to endure hardship but you didn't. I'm not going to judge someone just by the color of your skin, but when you open your mouth in ignorance then you open yourself up to criticism.

I'm not racist at all and it really upsets me to know there are still people in the world who can't get over it. As far as I'm concern, I think Zimmerman needs to be locked up and punished. 1-he was not suppose to use a gun 2-he was not suppose to confront the boy if he thought he was up to no good. Call the police! Is it not what we are suppose to do. Let someone run up on me. I would defend myself. Poor Trayvon was going home and some Clint Easterwood want to be got triggar happy.

@Ashamed: You have put forth the same argument that everyone's heard a million times. Get over it. I'm sure you were never enslaved, and it's ridiculous that you even say that things like this bring back centuries of pain. You have to be some kind of ignorant to not see all of the benefits that are given to black people. The United Negro College Fund, NAACP, BET, African American scholarships. All of these are racist, because white people can't have racially exclusive things. It's even harder for white people to get any form of government assistance. It's a complete double standard.

Making this murder a racist issues is going to hurt the reelection prospects of Obama. White people had to vote for him in order for him to get elected. Do you really want this to be an issue in an election year?

Really people! Are you serious? So three black guys shoot a white guy in Starkvill and by 6 their pictures are posted all in the media and, Yes! they've been arrested. I agreewith you; they should be punished. On the other hand, a young black man gets chased down and shot because "he did'nt look right". Now can you say with me "Zimmerman deserves to be punished"? Seriously! Why is it that some of you only resort to the scriptures when its convenient for you. Yes I believe in "Forgiveness" but what about Thou shalt not Kill? For all of you misguided individuals, the NAACP is an organization that brings injustice to the spotlight and when you see it and choose to turn a blind eye, you're part of the problem, not the solution. You might as well join the KKK (that is if you're not already a member). Get a clue! If there is no justice for some of us, then I gaurantee that there's no justice for any of us. And by the way, I am a hard working black woman who don't steal, don't lie, don't cheat others, and recieves no government support and I was there at the march.
  • by Why is race even an issue in this case? on Apr 10, 2012 at 07:50 AM
Quite Frankly I'm tired or hearing about this case. People are shot and killed everyday in the country and around the world. This was not a racially commited crime until the media made it one. We should be ashamed that murder happens at all. One life is gone, does it really matter what the color of his skin was? Now there is one less youth that will have the chance to make a difference. It shouldn't matter more because he was black or white or hispanic. It is ashame that murder happens in the first place. Get it together people, united we stand, divided we fall.

How about calling in the NAACP to canvas the neighborhoods to find the thugs who are committing all of the robberies in town lately. I think that the police would love the help from them and the citizens would feel much safer with them on patrol.

travon didnt have the right t attack him either. when he was approched he should not have attacked. if the guy provoked the attack then he was wrong but if someone plans on jumping someone they better be ready to get shot. wrong or right.

Wake up people. No charges have been filed in the Travon Martin murder. That is why people are marching. Because there is a suspect who has not been arrested. Because the people who decided that an arrest was not warranted incorrectly used a stand your ground law. There would be no reason for Zimmerman to stand his ground if he had not stalked Martin. Celebrate your right to speak your mind, but dont deny me the right to speak mine.
