Lauderdale County, Miss. Some teachers at Northeast Middle School participated in a weight loss challenge.

Teachers monitored their weight loss percentage over a nine week period that started in January. The top three teachers were given prizes. Third place went to Ashley Harris, Leigha Barnard received second place, and first place was awarded to Kim Pearsell, who lost over eight percent body weight. She talked about how she lost the weight.

"I didn't really exercise. I used an app on my iPhone called MyFitnessPal that keeps up with the calories that you eat, so I just kind of monitored the calories," said Pearsell, a 6th grade teacher.

Pearsell received a fifty dollar gift certificate to Glitz And Glamour, a fifty dollar gift certificate to El Norte, and two hundred fifty dollars cash. She will also get to leave early one Wednesday afternoon and have her class covered by principal Billy Burnham.
