The walls have been painted, carpet has been laid, and contractors are now working on the finishing touches before officers are hopefully able to move into the new police station sometime in May.
Thursday afternoon, crews were busy constructing benches and other furniture inside the new courtroom. Security cameras are installed throughout the building, including the evidence room. Heritage Building Corporation says it will soon be removing the fence from the front of the building to provide access to the parking lot.
"A lot of fence on the front has mainly been just, you know, because we have a lot of materials, equipment, and stuff like that in here," according to Eric Moore, operations manager for Heritage Building Corporation.
"It was a journey getting here," Meridian Mayor Cheri Barry admits. "But it has been a wonderful journey with wonderful partners and the end, you'll be able to see in about eight weeks."
Barry says the city will hold an open house once the project is finished in order for the entire community to tour the new facility.
