Newton County High Hosts Robotics Competition

Decatur, Miss. Students from all over Mississippi participated in a unique competition in Decatur Thursday.

Newton County High School hosted the Vex Robotics Competition.

Twenty-six teams from around the state competed to see who had the best engineering and programming skills.

The robots must meet certain qualifications and they are inspected prior to each contest.

A team wins after completing a given task first.

"The Vex Robot comes in a kit," said Mike Thomas of Magee Enterprises. "And of course you can add components to it to make it a better robot. You can buy more powerful motors. You can buy more motors. You can buy wheels or tank treads. You can really beef it up."

The top four teams from will compete in a state competition in February.
