Newton County Investigation

Newton County school superintendent, J. O Amis, confirmed Wednesday that a criminal matter allegedly involving a teacher has been turned over to law enforcement.

A source told Newscenter 11 that a teacher was involved with buying illegal drugs and stealing medications from a nurse's office.

Amis said district policy prevents him from discussing personnel issues. However, he said the teacher facing the allegations is not in the classroom at this time.

Newton County Sheriff Jackie Knight declined comment, saying the matter is still under investigation.
