A community gathered for prayer on Thursday evening, following the suicide of a local student last week.
Newton High School hosted the prayer service on campus Thursday evening. Superintendent Virginia Young says the service was about realizing the tragedy that occured, but also about healing and moving forward. Newton Mayor David Carr says it is important to take time to talk things out during a time like this.
To recap, authorities say a 17-year old pulled out a gun in class on Friday, September 21st and shot himself. The student died the following day at a Jackson hospital.
