Newton Schools Participate in Pink Out

Newton, Miss. The Newton Municipal School District hosted a Pink Out Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness Friday.

Students and staff started at the practice football field at Newton High School and then walked into downtown Newton.

Students paid a dollar or more to wear pink to participate in the event.

"We want to teach our students the importance of giving back to the community and this is a great way to do that," said superintendent, Dr. Virginia Young.

City and county officials, business organizations and parents participated in the event.

Proceeds raised will go to the Anderson Cancer Center Benevolence Fund and Relay for Life. An estimated $2,000 was raised.
