Oakland Heights Marks Black History Month

A Meridian elementary school celebrated Black History Month Friday in a big way.

Oakland Heights Elementary students were treated to tales from professional storyteller Terrence Roberts.

The children also performed a program with the theme of Celebrating Decades of Change."

Music teacher, Linda Guise, says the celebration gets bigger and better each year:

"This is how we expose them to different cultures, different varieties and styles of music," said Guise. "They also get to learn about the history of those decades, what happened, things that are going on. And they've done a wonderful job of that."

Guise says Meridian city councilwoman, Kim Houston, also talked with the students about building character.
