Meridian, Miss. The CEO of Mississippi's Make-A-Wish Foundation paid a visit to the Downtown Optimist Club Tuesday.
Make-A-Wish granted a little over 100 wishes in 2012 for children with life-threatening illnesses in Mississippi.
But the organization's Brent Wilson says with the number of eligible candidates in the state, they should be doubling that number.
To make it happen, the foundation needs more support and volunteers. Wilson says getting involved in the program can make a difference for more than just the child being helped.
"When you grant a wish, it not only affects the wish kids and their families. It also affects the volunteers, the donors, the people who help make that wish happen," said Wilson. "It's just an amazing experience, and we want more and more people to experience that. "
Wilson says Make-A-Wish currently grants wishes in 65 of Mississippi's 82 counties and it would like to expand its outreach.
