Organizations Support Coats for Kids

The Knights of Columbus has been collecting coats for several weeks to support the Coats for Kids campaign.

It collected about seventy coats and delivered them to Wesley House this week.

"A coat helps get the day off to so much better a start than to be shivering and freezing. They're going to do better in school that day," said Bill Nix of the Knights of Columbus. "That afternoon when they go out, they're going to have a better time, if they're comfortable, and enjoy the weather, even if it is cold."

The first and second grades at Calvary Christian School collected 48 coats to contribute to the cause.

The students say it's a way they can help out other kids who don't have as much as they have.

"We wanted to help those people out there that didn't have coats," said 2nd grade students Jamayon Naylor. "And we because it's the season of giving, because if you just have something in your closet, and you don't need it, somebody else can use it."

If you'd like to participate in Coats for Kids, bring new or gently used coats to WTOK at 815 23rd Avenue or to Meridian Mutual Federal Credit Union. The coats are distributed by Wesley House.
