PSE Celebrates Star Rating

Poplar Springs Elementary School in Meridian celebrated being named a Star school Wednesday.

It's the top designation a school can get in school ratings in Mississippi.

The school also recognized students who scored advanced, proficient and basic on the MCT2 test.
Those students received medals, much like the Olympics.

"Our advanced students received gold medals with big panda paws on them," said principal Lavonda Germany. "Our proficient students received the silver, and our basic students received the bronze medal."

Two Poplar Springs students actually had perfect scores on their tests, Sarah Page Shirley and Layton Jenkins didn't miss a question on the third grade math test.
