Greenville, Miss., activist Joyce Parker is one of 10 people being honored Tuesday at the White House for her work to promote education in the Mississippi Delta.

The Champions of Change program was created as a part of President Obama's Winning the Future initiative.

Each week, the White House features a group of Americans, individuals, businesses and organizations, who are doing extraordinary things to empower and inspire members of their communities.

Parker is director of Citizens for a Better Greenville and has a degree in criminal justice. She has been involved in the Prevention of Schoolhouse to Jailhouse Coalition.

The coalition has challenged schools' zero tolerance policies and worked to a decrease the number of students suspended or expelled and the number of students sent to detention centers.
