The city of Philadelphia is less than two weeks away from having a new police chief.
Mayor James Young says he has had plenty of qualified applicants, but choosing someone to lead the police department to where it needs to be is a real challenge.
Young said he has narrowed the list to three candidates.
With the recent increase of crime in the city, Young says it's especially important to find someone who can handle the responsibility.
"We are at the point where we can have nothing less," said Young. "So whoever steps in that position will have a weight on their shoulders to perform and to make our department one of the best in the state."
Young said he hopes to have someone in the position of police chief by Dec. 19. The individual will be named at the board meeting on that day.
