Philadelphia Superintendent Speaks on Keeping Students Safe

When it comes to the safety of students, Philadelphia's new superintendent says that's an issue that takes top priority.

Lisa Hull was appointed as superintendent just this month and begins her position July 1. She says with the constant dangers of violence in the school place, it's important to have a plan in place to take care of students and teachers to make sure all threats are appropriately handled.

"Safety is a huge concern, and it has got to be the number one concern of the school superintendent," she says. "If you do not have a safe and orderly school, your children are not going to learn, your teachers cannot teach, and the community is not going to trust that your schools can protect their children. "

Hull says the next step is to constantly monitor school's safety policies by keeping up to date on all drills and remaining current with what is happening across the nation to learn from other schools.
