Authorities say a pilot died when a small twin engine plane crashed in Philadelphia on Monday afternoon.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the pilot, 48-year-old Richard Howarth, Jr., of Meridian, was the only person on board when the plane took off from Philadelphia Municipal Airport.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.

Dan Cumberland, manager of the Philadelphia airport, said he wasn't sure of the plane's intended destination when it took off from Philadelphia.
