Poll Workers Prepare for Primaries

The Democrat and Republican parties are getting poll workers ready for May 7, when voters choose their nominees for city offices.

A meeting Wednesday focused on the rules poll workers have to follow.

The city contracted with the Lauderdale County Election Commission to lead the training. The commission deals with elections on an annual basis, not once every four years like cities usually do.

"We all want to have the best-trained poll workers that we can have because that is an important function of the election," said City Clerk Ed Skipper.

The primaries will determine the Republican and Democrat nominees for the general election June 4. If a runoff is necessary, it would be Tuesday, May 21.
