The students at Meridian's Poplar Springs Elementary School honored veterans with a special program Monday.
The students gathered outside the school with American flags, and listened as U.S. Navy Lt. Commander Kips Shively.
Shively, who is stationed at NAS Meridian and has a son at Poplar Springs, says he appreciates the community support for the military. He spoke about the importance of learning more about what veterans have done for our country.
"It was just an opportunity to explain to the students what Veterans Day is, and how their family members, whether they're active duty now, or maybe in the past with their relatives, how they can connect to Veterans Day," said Shively.
The school's choir, Pandamonium, also sang patriotic songs and the students placed their American flags in front of the school after the program.
