Prosecution of Walden on Hold

Posted: Tue 7:00 PM, Feb 19, 2013

Officials are waiting on information from medical staff about the status of Harry Wayne Walden.

Walden, who attempted suicide Sunday in downtown Meridian, is charged with the murder of Beth Morris in July 2012 in Lauderdale County.

District Attorney Bilbo Mitchell says officials still don't know the prognosis of the injuries sustained after Walden leaped from the 22nd Avenue bridge with a rope around his neck.

"This is something we are going to have to wait and see how long he's going to be in the hospital," said Mitchell. "We can't try him up there and I'm not sure what his prognosis is or how long he might be in there."

Mitchell says Walden was originally charged with manslaughter but the case was presented to a grand jury as a murder case.

At this time no new trial date has been set.
