Read Across America at York West End Jr. High

York, Alabama York West End Junior High celebrated reading Monday with the annual Read Across America.

The event honors the beloved children's author Dr. Seuss. His birthday was Sunday. Local schools invited guest readers in to read stories to the students. The principal of the school says getting kids to love reading will help them as they get older.

"Reading is the foundation for learning. Everything that's related to academics today, it all hinges on reading, and it is very important that we instill in the children while they are very young," said Clifford Reynolds, the school's principal.

Dr. Seuss would have been 110 years old this year.
