Meridian, Miss. Fundraising got kicked off tonight for next year's Relay for Life in Lauderdale County. Teams gathered tonight at EMEPA's auditorium for a news conference and rally to start building the excitement, and to start raising funds to fight cancer. Organizers say Lauderdale County's Relay For Life was the biggest one in the state last year, raising $297,000.00. Event Co-Chair Justin Branton says this year they hope to far surpass that, as well as get the message out about fighting for a cure, " It means a lot of different things to people," explained Branton. "More importantly, it's educating people about how to take care of yourself, and get screenings done, and to make sure you're on top of knowing about cancer, and how to prevent it, if you can."
The Southeast High School Cheerleaders helped to get everyone pumped up tonight about raising money to fight for a cure. Lauderdale County's Relay for Life will be April 25th at the Agri-Center. To register your team, just go to the website, www.relayforlife.org and enter your zip-code.
