Residents Encouraged to Think about Pool Safety

Meridian, Mississippi After many drownings or near-drownings in our area recently, residents are being encouraged to think about proper pool safety.

Johnny Williamson of Metro Ambulance says to put up a fence around the pool. The manager of All Around Pool and Spa says educating small children can help prevent something like this, but parents always need to be watchful.

"The best thing is constantly watching, supervising, keeping your eyes on who is in the pool, who's not in the pool. Having more eyes than just one person," said Wendy Carpenter of All Around Pool and Spa.

Some in-ground pools also have alarm systems that hang over the side of the pool and can detect the wave action in the pool and tell the difference between smaller items and a child or a dog.
