Restaurant Preparing for Santorum Visit

Weidmann's Restaurant is gearing up to host presidential candidate Rick Santorum at its downtown Meridian facility on Sunday afternoon.

In addition to setting up extra space for the event and of course cleaning, workers there tell us the fire marshal has visited the restaurant to inspect the building, as well as the U.S. Secret Service.

"We're staying open a little bit longer," Weidmann's supervisor Nykolas Alford says. "Rick Santorum is expected to be here around 1:30 or 1:45. We're going to stay open a little bit longer, maybe 2:15 or 2:30. We normally close at 2:00 on Sunday's."

Alford says it is well worth it to stay open though as Santorum's visit will draw even more attention to one of Mississippi's oldest restaurants and hopefully bring in more business. He says it has not been that bad preparing either.

"We have to park in different spaces for them to have a little bit more room to park," he says. "The security will be well enforced, so we will have to have a lot of security guards and policeman here and that kind of thing. But other than that, nothing out of the ordinary."

Reports say Santorum won the Kansas Caucuses on Saturday.
