Some Meridian children got a chance to hear some entertaining stories, while hopefully learning a few life lessons.

Terrence Roberts, also known as Da Story Weaver, shared stories at Poplar Springs Elementary School.

As part of the school's celebration of Black History Month, Roberts told traditional African and African- American folktales.

"These stories are packed full of messages so that the children learn something," said Roberts. "They're entertained, but the story works in them, and they think about the lessons, and hopefully make good decisions and help build good character."

Friday's event was a part of Poplar Springs Elementary's Whole Schools Initiative.
