Rush Nurse Academy Hosts Pinning

Meridian, Miss.

Future nurses took a big step forward in their careers Wednesday.

Second, third and fourth semester students taking part in the Rush Hospital Student Nurse Academy were honored for their work.

The joint program of Meridian Community College and Rush allows the students work at the hospital while they're in school, getting hands-on training in the process.

"This is a win-win situation, not only for the students but for Rush," said Andie Ortlepp, Allied Health recruiter. "It helps us with a better recruiting factor to hire new nurses once they graduate and to train them on the policies and procedures of Rush."

Ortlepp says there is a shortage of nurses right now in this area. She says this program is helping Rush fill open positions.
