Meridian, Miss. The new school year hasn't begun yet. However local students got a jump start on their education.
Twenty-four students from Meridian High School are taking part in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) program.
Students have been touring different city offices this week getting a first-hand look of what it takes to get the job done.
"It's a really good experience," said Terrell Thompson, a ninth grade student. "We've been learning how to lay out blueprints, how they keep all their papers in order, and how they file them. And we've learned how they deal with all the rent and financial issues that go on in the housing authority sites."
Students in Meridian and Lauderdale County will head back to the classroom Aug. 6.
