Salvation Army Angel Tree Program Kicks Off

The Salvation Army kicked off its annual Angel Tree Program at Citizens National Bank Tuesday.

"We have about, just over a thousand angels on the trees in the area," said Salvation Army commander, Maj. Walter Strong.

Strong said he believes there's a thousand children in the Meridian area alone that wouldn't wake up to a nice Christmas morning if it weren't for the help of people adopting angels from the Salvation Army's Angel Trees.

Citizens National Bank is partnering with The Salvation Army to try to get as many wishes fulfilled as they can before December 25th.

Brian Koroknay with Citizens National Banks says that, "We find it's important to not only serve our community banking wise and financial wise, but also to fulfill the needs of the angels in our community."

The Angel Trees are located at Goody's, Rush Hospital, Chunky River Harley Davidson, all Citizens National Bank locations, and at Bonita Lakes Mall near JC Penney.

All of the angel cards have the child's name, age, gender, clothing size and wish list. You may purchase some or all the items listed on the card, and bring back the unwrapped gifts to where you got the angel by December 14th and The Salvation Army will take care of the rest.

"What we do at that point is put them together so the children will all be put together by family and then we give them out later in December," Strong said.

Strong says the Angel Tree project is just another day in the life for them.

"It's part of our call of ministry." he said. "It's part of our way of helping people in situations to not only have a better Christmas, but to have a better life throughout the year. It's part of the ministry of what we do all day long every day."
