The Salvation Army in Meridian has officially begun the Christmas season as it prepares to meet the needs of local families.
The agency kicked off its Red Kettle Campaign and Angel Tree at Bonita lakes Mall with help from the Lamar School Second Grade Chorus.
Shoppers will see bell ringers out and about through the next few weeks. This is a major fundraiser for The Salvation Army.
"Our goal for our kettles this year year is $115,000. And I would remind all the listeners that we are already five days behind," said Maj. Walter Strong. "So we are starting in a hole this year because Thanksgiving is late. And so when you go by a kettle, dig deep, help us out. We really need the funds."
Children listed on the Angel Tree represent families going through hard times that cannot provide new toys and clothing on their own.
Bell ringers will be at the mall, Walgreens, Winn Dixie, Vowell's, Big Lots, Dirt Cheap, and after Thanksgiving, at Wal-Mart stores.
