Meridian, Miss. The Salvation Army kicked off its Angel Tree campaign here in Meridian on Tuesday.
Over one thousand angels need to be adopted this year. People who want to adopt an angel can pick one out at Bonita Lakes Mall, any Citizens National Bank location, and some churches in the area. The kinds of items the children need are listed on the angel. Officials with the Salvation Army say the need has increased this year.
"What we are seeing is a lot of new clients this year. About 40 percent of our clients this year are brand new, and have never been in before, and really we are just try to continue what we did last year," said Walter Strong, a core officer for the Meridian branch of the Salvation Army.
The campaign will run until December 14th, and the gifts will be distributed on December 20th at the old Winn Dixie on Highway 19.
