Saturday is Meridian's Household Hazardous Waste Day

Disposing of household hazardous waste won't be a problem for Meridian residents if they take advantage of an opportunity this weekend.

Public works employees will have two sites set up Saturday from 8 a.m to 2 p.m. One is the Meridian Public Works Complex at 311 27th Avenue South. The other is on North Hills Street, next to the bowling alley.

City residents may bring things like old tires, used oil, aerosol cans, and batteries that should not go in with your regular garbage.

"We do it because, one of the things that can't go in the landfills," said Odell Hopkins, contract compliance officer. "EPA requirements, from DEQ. They regulate what can and what can't be disposed of through our regular waste stream. And so we're trying to make sure it's done properly."

The city of Meridian hosts Household Hazardous Waste Day in the spring and fall.
