Scott County authorities say the death of a 3-year-old girl has been ruled a homicide and a woman is charged with capital murder.
Sheriff Mike Lee says Samaria Harris died Saturday at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, where she had been hospitalized since May 1.
County Coroner Joe Bradford says an autopsy showed the child died of blunt force trauma.
Samaria's father, 38-year-old Sedrick Harris, is charged with felony child abuse.
Harris' fiancee, 25-year-old Lamonica Johnson, was arrested Wednesday and charged with capital murder and felony child abuse. Johnson's four children are now in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Human Services.
Johnson wasn't granted bond. Harris' bond was set at $100,000.
Lee says an investigation in the case is ongoing.
