Forest, Miss. Just two days after Mississippi's primary elections, Senator Thad Cochran made a return trip to East Mississippi.
During a visit to the Raytheon plant in Forest on Thursday, Senator Cochran took time to discuss the special skills of those who work at Raytheon and how they impact national security as a whole. Raytheon is one of the largest defense manufacturing plants in the state. But Senator Cochran could not escape questions about the primary election on Tuesday. He told Newscenter 11 the race ended up being a lot closer than he thought it would be. However, he says he is confident he will win the election.
"Well, I think it has been very competitive and if there has been any wrongdoing, or any illegal stuff that went on, you know people should be prosecuted," Senator Cochran says. "Other than that, I hope that it doesn't put a chill on the process and discourage people from participating."
The runoff election is set for June 24th. The winner will face Democratic candidate Travis Childers and Reform party candidate Shawn O'Hara in November's general election.
