Meridian, Miss. Meridian's Regional Airport received some good news Tuesday night.
Meridian Airport Authority president Tom Williams says that the Department of Transportation has ordered Silver Airways to remain in Meridian until a replacement airline is found. Silver Airways announced almost two weeks ago it plans to leave Meridian, Tupelo, Greenville and the Laurel-Hattiesburg airports. We were able to speak with Williams on the phone Tuesday night, who says Meridian is conducting an aggressive campaign to land quality air service.
"Our region actually has a healthy demand for air travel, and we are marketing that along with the demand out of Laurel-Hattiesburg," said Williams. "Together, we make a better argument, and we will find out in the next couple of months whether we've been successful."
The Department of Transportation order also includes all other Mississippi airports Silver served.
