Meridian, Miss. A Meridian armed robbery suspect is now facing additional charges.
The Meridian Police Department says Dwayne Simmons has already been charged with the armed robbery of the King City store on Highway 39 North on Apr. 27.
Now police say Simmons is also charged with forcing his way into Rameka Brooks' home in Magnolia Courts Apr. 22 and robbing her at gunpoint.
"It's a relief because knowing that the person that had taken away something that money can't even buy, such as my safety, the safety of my children," Brooks says. "Knowing that I have that back, it gives me peace because I couldn't sleep."
Detective Dareall Thompson says Simmons is also being charged with a separate home invasion. He says victim cooperation played a big part in these recent charges.
"It shows that the citizens are getting tired and fed up and they are just going to report it," Thomas points out.
"I'm very glad that I came forward," Brooks admits. "At first, I was a little nervous about retaliation. I'm not originally from here, so I've come to know that this is a closely knitted community."
Meridian police say they are investigating other robberies for possible ties to Simmons.
