Final results from the Lauderdale County Circuit Clerk show that Snowden captured 53% of the votes in his district, with Democrat Gary Houston snagging 40% and Independent Sam Thompson drawing 7%.

"I feel very good," Snowden admits. "It's great to be in a position of being able to go back to represent this area in the House of Representatives."

Snowden tells Newscenter 11 he has spoken to both Houston and Thompson since election night and says there is no acrimony among the candidates. Thompson says he wishes Snowden well.

"I would like to congratulate him," Thompson says. "It was a hard fight. There were sleepless nights, late nights, and early mornings."

While Thompson says it was a tough fight and admits he feels there were some tense moments between the candidates, he says it was all worth it.

"We all have to understand that this is about the people," Thompson explains. "It's also about the truth. So I feel that we all need to do what we can to make sure when we address the people, we lay the truth on the table."

But Snowden says he is also thrilled that Republicans have gained control of both the House and the Senate.

"So, it's going to be a very exciting time in Jackson," he says. "I'm just proud to be part of it."

Newscenter 11 contacted Democrat Gary Houston on Tuesday to get his reaction to the District 83 results. He told us he plans to hold a press conference on Thursday morning at 10:00 at the Lauderdale County Democratic Headquarters on 6th Street in Meridian.
