Some Mississippi Tax Refunds Delayed

Some Mississippi taxpayers will have to wait longer for their state tax refund.

Kathy Waterbury with the Mississippi Department of Revenue says the agency is 150,000 refunds behind where it was this time last year.

Waterbury says the department's computer hardware is simply slow. She says it shouldn't be much longer before the state catches up and checks are mailed or deposited.

Tax preparers suggest double checking information when filing taxes, because there are several red flags that could pop up when going through fraud detection.

I agree with Dee, I used Turbo Tax And my taxes are being held for review. 90 day have come and gone. This is a shame that the state is slow and have not updated there systems this is 2012 not 1950.

Most taxpayers use Turbo tax efile to simplify the process. In the 7yrs I have used it I have never seen issues like this. Turbo tax shows federal and state refunds were processed and accepted. When called Ms department of rev it states that some may be pulled and held for 90 days. Why send email stating accepted and now 5 weeks since then it is being held. We are all struggling now with this economy. It said you processed and accepted so give me my money!!!!

if i dont pay on time, they can give me an additional charge, i think it should work the other way around, if they have not sent me my refund by april 16, they should be fined and give us a percentage increase.

I wonder what would happen if a welfare recipient had to wait on their check. I can just see city's burning. And law suits. Luckily most of those state refunds are going to responsible working people or those on unemployment who are responsible but just suffering the effects of a Democrat economy.
