Meridian, Miss. St. Patrick Catholic School marked its 140th anniversary with a party Thursday. Students sang Happy Birthday to their beloved school.

St. Patrick has educated many community leaders in its long history.

"My favorite part about St. Patrick's is the good people and the spirit here," said student Kevin Krause. "It's really fun, and I've had a great time here."

Krause isn't the only one who feels that way. Erin Clark thinks 140 years is great for St. Patrick's.

"I think it's really good, being a good tradition for others and people," said Clark. "And I loved the cake."

St. Patrick was founded by Father Louis Vally. The school was originally located where the church office is now and had 1st through 12th grades. The school is now housed in a different building and has been there since 1963. It now houses pre-K through 7th grade.

"We are a community of diverse religions, all different faith traditions, different colors, different races," said principal Julie Bordelon. "We all blend together into one big family that has an opportunity every day to tell about Jesus' love for us."

St. Patrick School was founded in 1873. It became co-ed through a merger in 1924. The high school closed in 1951. The junior high closed in 1968. It has been an elementary school since then.
