State Games Expected to Have Big Impact

Meridian, Miss. Thousands of people are set to descend on the queen city for the annual state games of Mississippi. Not only will there be thousands of athletes, but their friends and family members will also be traveling here, which means big business for meridian. Restaurants and hotels are very excited about the games because of the big crowds they bring to the queen city. Hotels will be filled to capacity this weekend with over 2000 people coming to meridian just for soccer.

Courtney Kirkman, the General Manager at Hampton Inn says"We are excited. This is a very busy weekend for us it always is, and we look forward to them coming. We are prepared and as ready as we can be and we are completely sold out the entire weekend."

Kirkman says they received room request for this years state games almost immediately following last years games. Even with thousands coming to the queen city, employees are ready and willing to meet the needs of the athletes and their families and look forward to doing so every year.

She went on to say "I have a great team, a great staff here at the Hampton and everyone is really excited and on board to help with state games. I actually had people that wanted to work during state games. They really look forward to them coming."

A lot of business is coming to meridian not only this weekend but next weekend as well.

Kirkman says "This weekend is going to be really, really busy for us, but also next weekend. Next weekend will be the meridian picnic. It's going to be a city wide sell out. We've had people calling in for over a year now for rooms for the meridian picnic. I know we are looking forward to being busy this weekend and next weekend."
