Meridian, Miss. A local member of the community has been honored in a huge way for his service to public education.
State Senator Videt Carmichael received an award for leadership in public education, from the Mississippi Association of School Superintendents. The award is one of the most prestigious awards they give to someone who is a strong supporter and contributor to education, through their service and dedication to public education.
"For them to honor me in the way that they did and to know that we're trying to do the best we can for the educational system in our state, that means a lot to me and we work continuously," said Carmichael.
The award is not given on an annual basis and was last awarded to Governor William Winter and Jack Reed Sr. in 2006.
