Meridian, Miss. Students took a close-up look at history Monday afternoon at the Industrial Heritage Museum at the old Soule' building in Meridian.
A group of home schooled students visited the traveling Smithsonian exhibit, now on display through mid-November.
"The Way We Worked" highlights work in the U.S. from the late 1900s to near the end of the 20th century.
Home-school advocate Karen Rooney says the exhibit brings education to life.
"Because you learn history, local history as well as national history. You also learn science and physics," said Rooney, who is also executive director of Meridian Main Street. "They will be seeing a blacksmith work as well. And all the pulleys and so forth that are up on the ceilings is all of your mechanical engineering. And it just makes the books come to life."
The group of 140 home schooled students who took the tour Monday represent east Mississippi and west Alabama.
