Forty-one students from the Laurel School District visited Elegance Ballroom Dance Studio in Meridian to learn about the history of dance in conjunction with Black History Month.
The class received a grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission to learn ballroom dancing through the physical education program.
Sixth and seventh graders practiced a variety of dances ranging from the samba, rumba, and the salsa. The students learned the history of those dances as well.
The students were able to get some one-on-one instruction in addition to learning about the origins of the dances.
