The ninth annual Walk for Wishes was held in downtown Meridian on Saturday morning.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation hosted the event, aimed at raising $30,000. Organizers say that goal has not been met in the last couple of years, but this year it finally happened they say. Officials credit the nice weather and other downtown activities for the additional participants this year.
"This money goes and helps us work on wishes for this next year," according to Brenda Golisch. "It also helps educate the community in what Make-A-Wish is about. We'd like to have kids here to tell the wish that they're working on or the wish they've already received."
Golisch says the event makes participants aware that they are actually part of sharing the power of a wish.
