Meridian, Miss. The Meridian Downtown Optimist Club welcomed two guest speakers who represent support groups for parents.
Tracy Bragg of the Parents Circle Support Group says the non-profit serves families with special needs children of all ages and disabilities. And there is a place for you if you'd like to volunteer.
Louann Henson represents TEAAM Meridian (Together Enhancing Autism Across Mississippi), which tries to bring awareness about autism. She says it affects 1 in every 68 children.
"They lack social skills," said Henson. "They have behaviors that need to be understood. And it's a growing problem."
"We play baseball. We have been invited to play tennis," said Bragg of the activities offered to special needs children. "We've been invited to play soccer, basketball. We have activities such as dances twice a year. We have fall festivals."
