Meridian, Miss. An armed man wanted for assaulting a local woman is now in police custody.
The Meridian Police Department says Victor Ashley is the man taken into custody by the Waynesboro Police Department. Detective Dareall Thompson tells Newscenter 11 that Ashley was involved in a dispute with his girlfriend at a home in the 1400 block of 15th Street in Meridian. Thompson says that dispute started Saturday night and lasted into Sunday.
Police tell us Ashley ended up leaving the home in a black Pontiac and was armed. Detective Thompson says investigators quickly issued a 'Be on the Lookout' for Ashley to other law enforcement agencies in the area. The description of Ashley and his vehicle provided by MPD allowed police in Waynesboro to assist in apprehending Ashley.
Authorities tell us the female who was assaulted by Ashley was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Ashley will be transported from Waynesboro back to Meridian.
