Sutphin Looks Ahead

Updated: Fri 11:02 PM, Feb 17, 2012

The outgoing president of East Central Community College says he's looking forward to his retirement.

Dr. Phil Sutphin announced earlier this year that he'd be stepping down from his position, effective in June.

Sutphin has been president at the college since the retirement of Dr. Eddie Smith. He talked to Newscenter 11 about the reason for his decision, and his plans after he retires.

"I figure after 12 years it's time for fresh leadership at the college, and energy," Sutphin said. "And there are a lot of places I want to go and things I want to see. And if I wait too long, I might not get there."

East Central's board of trustees has already begun the process of looking for Sutphin's successor. They say they hope to have an announcement next month.
