Symphony Association Hires New Executive Director

Meridian, Miss. The Meridian Symphony Association recently named Susie Johnson its executive director.

Johnson joined the association in 2010, where she became the first education community engagement director. She had been serving as interim executive director since last fall.

Johnson is involved in organizing the symphony programming as well as continuing her duties to get children involved in symphony education with events like the Symphony Doo Dah concert.

"One of my favorite quotes that I've heard recently from someone in another community who said when they see a symphony orchestra in a community, they know that community has got things going on," said Johnson. "And I feel like that's Meridian."

The next symphony concert is Mar. 8 at the MSU Riley Center. It's titled, Mendelssohn and Beethoven. It will feature award-winning violinist, Bella Hristova, who recently played at Carnegie Hall in New York.
