T.J. Harris Observes Black History Month

T.J. Harris Elementary School hosted its annual Black History Month program Thursday.

The theme was 'T.J. Harris, Then and Now'. Students performed selections of poetry and music and recited African American historical facts.

The guest speaker was Roscoe Jones, an alumnus of T.J. Harris, who talked to the children about his experiences at the school. He gave them an assignment too.

"That assignment is for the next five to six years to make a dedicated effort on your behalf to learn more about the civil rights movement in the state of Mississippi, especially in Meridian," said Jones.

Jones also told the students to challenge themselves to further their education.
