Preparations are being made to roll out the red carpet in Meridian for football fans for two major SEC match-ups this fall. Meridian Main Street is partnering with the Lauderdale County/Meridian Tourism Office to host two tailgating block parties in downtown Meridian. One is tentatively set for the Friday before the MSU and LSU game, and the second possibly before the game when Texas A&M faces Alabama.
"We want them to stop over on Friday night, and come to the big party with us," says Meridian Main Street Director, Karen Rooney. "We don't have all of the details down yet, but the general outline is to have a pub and restaurant crawl; to have an entertainment forum. We don't want them to bring their tailgate with them; we want them to spend their money here!"
Rooney says music will likely be provided at the events, which are expected to be held at Dumont Plaza in downtown. Currently, both tailgating block parties are expected to be held September 19th prior to the MSU vs. LSU game, and October 17th prior to the Alabama vs. Texas A&M game.
