Thomas, Jack Share Visions for Ward One

Meridian, Mississippi Now that the primary election is over, the attention is shifting to the race for Ward One City Council in Meridian

Incumbent George Thomas is facing Martin Jack in the general election on June 4th for the Ward One City Council seat. Thomas says he is pleased with the status of Ward One, but says the biggest concern right now is the annexed area and allowing the city to run water and sewer service in that area. Meanwhile, Jack tells Newscenter 11 he is not satisfied with Ward One because residents in that area became citizens of the city against their will due to the annex.

"Now that they are citizens, they deserve equal quality of life in Ward One," Jack says. "As far as water and sewer, and police and fire protection, and I just think we need to do more to satisfy those citizens of Ward One."

"There is a certification area out there for water and sewer that the city cannot take, prohibited by state law," Thomas says. "We're trying to work with that North Lauderdale Water Association, so that the city can run water and sewer to that area."

Thomas and Jack will appear in the first portion of Sunday's "On the Record" with John Johnson. The program airs at 5:30 p.m. on WTOK-TV.
