Three guards at East Mississippi Correctional Facility at Lost Gap have been arrested on embezzlement charges.
22-year-old Markiezth Tillman, 27-year-old William David Smith, and Derrick Brown, 24, were all taken into custody after an internal investigation by the company that runs the prison, and a sheriff's department investigation.
"After an internal investigation, as well as an investigation from the sheriff's department, three individuals have been arrested and charged with embezzlement," said Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun. "These three individuals have been given a bond and two of the three have bonded out at this time."
The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department is the investigating agency for incidents at the privately run prison. The state of Mississippi contracted with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) to run the facility.
The case will be presented to the next available grand jury.
